Laura & Ray’s Family-Focused Wedding at Allegheny RiverTrail Park

A Joy-Filled Celebration by the Water

If you’re dreaming of a Pittsburgh outdoor wedding that feels relaxed, meaningful, and centered around family — Laura & Ray’s wedding at Allegheny RiverTrail Park (previously known as The Gem) is such beautiful inspiration.

Overlooking the water, surrounded by their closest people, and celebrating not just their marriage but the family they’ve already built — this day was personal in all the best ways.

And yes. It ended with an ice cream truck and a dance floor that absolutely did not quit.

A Waterfront Wedding at Allegheny RiverTrail Park

Nestled along the Allegheny River, Allegheny RiverTrail Park is one of those venues that gives you nature, water views, and sunset glow — all without leaving the Pittsburgh area.

If you’re searching for:

  • Allegheny RiverTrail Park wedding photos

  • Waterfront wedding venues near Pittsburgh

  • Outdoor wedding ceremony locations in Western PA

This venue offers a laid-back setting that still feels special and intentional.

Laura & Ray’s ceremony overlooked the water, with their boys close by and their immediate family surrounding them. It felt intimate. Present. Grounded.

Getting Ready at Home (And Re-Creating Childhood Memories)

Laura chose to get ready at her mom’s home — and this part of the day might have been one of my favorites.

There’s something about getting ready in a space filled with history that just hits differently. Childhood photos on the walls. Familiar hallways. The kind of kitchen where everyone gathers without being told to.

Before heading to the ceremony, we re-created photos Laura and her sisters took together as kids. Same poses. Same energy. Just a little taller and in wedding attire this time.

It was sentimental without being overly serious — which honestly describes the entire day.

For couples planning a family-centered Pittsburgh wedding, incorporating personal locations like a childhood home adds depth you just can’t replicate in a hotel suite.

A Wedding That Celebrated Their Boys Just As Much

This wasn’t just Laura & Ray’s wedding day.

It was a celebration of their whole family.

Their two boys were woven into everything — from the ceremony to portraits to dance floor moments. During couple and family portraits, we found a tree swing nearby… and obviously everyone had to take a turn.

The boys went first (elite form, 10/10 energy).
Then Laura.
Then Ray.
And yes, even a few adults who absolutely did not plan on swinging that day.

Those in-between, joy-filled moments? That’s the good stuff.

If you’re looking for a Pittsburgh wedding photographer who captures candid family moments, this is exactly why I approach portraits the way I do — guided, but never stiff. Structured, but still playful.

Ice Cream Truck + Packed Dance Floor = Perfect Ending

Instead of a traditional late-night snack, Laura & Ray brought in an ice cream truck — and I cannot recommend this enough.

Kids. Adults. Everyone lined up.

It was playful and unexpected in a way that fit them perfectly.

And once the music started? That dance floor stayed full. Immediate family, friends, kids weaving between adults — the kind of celebration where no one is too cool to danceIce .

These are the wedding days that feel alive.

Planning a Wedding in Pittsburgh?

If you’re planning a day that blends sentiment with straight-up fun

Your photography should reflect that balance.

You deserve photos that:

  • Capture real smiles (the contagious kind)

  • Preserve meaningful locations

  • Document both the quiet moments and the dance floor chaos

  • Feel natural and true-to-life

As a Pittsburgh wedding photographer, I care deeply about creating space for genuine moments — especially when family is at the heart of the story.
