San Diego Trip | April 2019

This spring I had the opportunity to travel out to California to capture one of my couple’s engagement sessions. We ended up doing two shoots, one on the beaches of San Diego, and one in Alabama Hills & Mt. Whitney. Both were amazing of course!

For this trip, my mom tagged along as my travel buddy and occasional lighting assistant. You may remember that we traveled together out west last year, when we went to Las Vegas, Red Rock, Valley of Fire, and Death Valley. It seems like this trip out west may become an annual thing!

We spent our first night in Old Town, enjoying a few of the historical sites (and a few margaritas). The food was absolutely incredible. The next day we started early, heading to the Cabrillo National Monument. While there, we went to the nearby tide pools and explored. It was my first time at a tide pool - such a unique environment!

You can’t do San Diego without a stop at the boardwalk, so we headed to Mission Beach next, and ended our time in San Diego with the engagement session at Torrey Pines.

After that, we started driving. We drove everywhere the rest of the trip, headed 5 hours outside of the city to Alabama Hills, then Mt. Whitney, then down around the mountain range to Sequoia National Park. We drove through Red Rock State Park, and Fresno, then continued on to Highway 1. Starting at Carmel by the Sea, we drove the coastline down to LA.

If that seems like a lot, it is because it was. We did all of that in 2 days! The day we left we had a little time to see Santa Monica Pier and part of Beverly Hills. Whew!
